Meaningful use is a word that is often spoken in the health industry, but what does it accurately signify? The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are allowed to offer a repayment incentive to all eligible health professionals and hospitals that turn out to be “meaningful users” of EHR tools. While the meaningful use incentives may be similar, the qualifications diverge. The Medicaid EHR agenda provides for incentive repayment to go to all eligible health experts and hospitals for any efforts to improve, realize, or implement the EHR technology for meaningful use in the first year of their agenda or for demonstrating meaningful use for five years in a row prior. The Medicare curriculum allows for incentive payments to all eligible hospitals, gurus, and dangerous access hospitals that are meaningful users of the EHR tools. This is all thanks to the American and Recovery Act of 2009.
